Are you eating out at fast food restaurants more because of the recession? If so, which chains are your favorites? (Back to story)

No, I am not eating out more or less because of the recession. Glad to own McDonalds stock though.

I used to visit BK from time to time until they downsized the Whopper JR but kept the price the same. McD’s lost some of my business when the managers were too interested in speaking spanish to each other and reviewing their coworkers purchase of curtains. We stood there far too long while they ignored me. I finally called out to the group of 5 employees who were ignoring us. They looked at us, acted as if we were a nuisance and wrapped up their session. It turns out the manager was one of the culprits and when I asked her why they had been ignoring me, she said that what they were doing was work related. I filed a complaint with corporate and they have pretty much ignored me. Now neither of these companies deserves my money and they will not be getting any of it. We have been brown bagging it more and more lately and to be honest, I feel much better about it. We’re saving money, eating fresh food and we know what exactly is in our food. Have you ever read the ingredient list on a frozen product? I’m no longer talking about McD’s or BK, but just as bad for us. Half of the ingredient list isn’t even any sort of recognizable food. What is Titanium oxide (I cannot remember if it was oxide or dioxide) used for? I seem to also remember zinc oxide being on a particular label. I’m sure I stand with you guys when I say that I want to see fresh, natural ingredients such as wheat, tomato, vegetables and maybe even meat. I don’t want to eat anything that came out of a chemistry lab! Enough already!

“Fast food” is out now. Time to get physically healthy. Strength and peace of mind is needed deal with this shock and awe economic attack on the midlle class.

No, fast food is not in the end cheap. Easier, faster and cheaper to eat at home.

I never ate frequently at any fast food chain after I realized that I could spend the same at a diner and get better service and better food. McD and BK are far from cheap and their artery clogging food leaves a lot to be desired.

I quit going out to eat as you don’t know what people put in the food. I got E COLI from one pizza place and was the sickest I’ve ever been for over a month with terrible pains. Only go to fast food if you’re travelling or have no time. Otherwise, brown bag to save money as things are changing. It’s always nice to go out to eat once a month just to treat yourself. Keep it simple as possible and you’ll do OK.

I use to visit all of the fast food places but things started to change. The prices started going up, the portion size started getting smaller, and the quality of the food got worse. I rarely eat out anymore and find it cheaper and better to make the meal at home “my way”.

I cook on the very cheap at home. But reward my frugality by eating someplace nice 2X a month. (Not chain food like Applebees or Sizzler either. I can cook better with less hassle at home)

I don’t eat at McDonalds or BK. It’s gross, unhealthy and after adding in all the extras they try to talk you into getting -expensive.

My motto is ‘Save up and Live large.’

I totally stopped eating out late last year. I have not even purchased a soft drink or cup of coffee in a restaurant since then. I cook and bake everything at home. I also eliminated all deli food and home delivery of pizza. It is the only way to deal with the soaring food prices.

I’m with St. Louis Paul – Skipping the dining out totally, and buying basic food and cooking it at home.

Oh, wait, I have always done that.

But I am now skipping the occasional morning breakfast fast food thing. Too expensive, always tastes the same and I gotta go out of my way to get it.

I have actually eliminated almost all fast food dining since January and am cooking at home, shopping for groceries with coupons, etc. I am saving lots of money and have lost a bit of weight.

No, I am not. In fact, I’m eating more at locally owned and operated restaurants. I have discussed business with staffs and so on and based on that and my own observations, I have increased my dining and my tipping. Call it my personal “stimulus program”.

McD is doing a great job of moving folks away from Starbucks and Panera with lower-priced,but very good quality offers. BK still is still a low-quality offer and instead of using them, many folks are brown-bagging their meals.
